World Clean Up Day 2019 – Saturday 21st September 2019
World Clean Up Day is a global effort where people from all over the world come together to clean litter and waste from our beaches. It will come as no surprise to know our oceans are teeming with plastic. It is estimated that between 4.8 and 12.7 million tonnes of plastic enter our oceans each year. Plastic can enter the ocean as large items which are identifiable as many different types of plastic or as micro plastics – these micro plastics can be under 5mm in length. Both pose a significant threat to marine life. Marine life ingest micro plastics and if you like eating seafood, chances are a certain amount of plastic is likely to end up on your dinner plate. Obviously not good news for either species.
However, we can do something about it. On Saturday 21 September 2019 millions of people in over 150 countries will come together for one goal: a cleaner planet. Being one person helping to clean a beach may seem like a small gesture but if millions of people come together to take part – we will see the difference needed to reduce plastic waste all around the globe.
If you don’t have any plans this weekend – get involved!! Everyone is invited to take part, all ages, religious backgrounds, cultural differences, this is open to everyone. Friends and family – all are welcome to join us in making our home a cleaner place to live. And dogs, I mean do I even have to say it.
In the coming days nearing the 21st I’ll update my social media with information on local events happening in your area – so keep your eyes peeled!
As always I’d love you to tag me in your beach pics!
